Nelson Soars to 2025 Mini Rod Championship presented by SCS Gearbox
Sellersburg, IN (November 8th, 2025) - The ever-growing, ever-popular and high-flying Mini Rod class presented by SCS Gearbox saw a fresh face at the top of the leader board from a team rooted in successful championship battles.
Sidney, Illinois' Tanner Nelson and the "1/2 Past Midnight" joined his fellow competitors in an eight-session shootout. The season had heightened stakes with a pair of rained-out sessions at Nelson's "hometown" pull in Altamont and the second session at the Hillsboro Charity Pull in Hillsboro, Wisconsin. Nelson, in those remaining six contests, reeled off two wins (Goshen, Indiana and session one in Hillsboro) and three additional podium finishes. Tanner was followed in second by Peter Norton's "Category 1" machine (wheeled primarily by Tanner's dad, Jeremy) and the "Cash Cow" machine of Bret Berg.
Championships are definitely a tradition in Tanner's family as he joins his late grandfather John Mumma, dad Jeremy, uncle Jared, aunt Bethany, (all Super Modified TWD) and uncle Jordan (Mini Rod) as points champions.
Congratulations to Tanner on his 2025 championship run in Mini Rods presented by SCS Gearbox; he and his fellow points champions will be in the spotlight at the Champions Awards Banquet at the Hyatt Regency in Louisville, Kentucky, on November 15th, 2025.
