Pro Pulling League Stars Stand Out at 2022 Championship Tractor Pull

Charlestown, IN (February 24, 2022) – After a two-year hiatus pullers and fans returned to legendary Freedom Hall in Louisville, Kentucky for the annual Championship Tractor Pull and National Farm Machinery Show, held February 16th through February 19th, 2022. Ten classes were showcased across four days of competition and five sessions. Competitors from the Champions Tour, Champion Seed Western Series, Ag Protect 1 Midwest Region, Silver Series, and member-states of the Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League squared off with foes from other national and regional organizations for championship honors and a coveted crystal trophy in each class.

Four classes were contested in a single session for championship honors while six classes held qualifying contests to decide an overall champion in the Saturday night finals.

In the opening session on Wednesday February 16th, Modified Four Wheel Drive Trucks declared their overall champion from a stellar group of 12 trucks. Charlie Hinds and his Runnin’ Wild Texas Style Ford was the top PPL competitor in the class, finishing second and less than two-tenths of a foot out of the top spot. The Friday February 18th session had another single-session contest with Limited Pro Stock Tractors. Top finishers from the PPL included Colby Counce on the Dixie Deere, the 2021 Mid-South Pullers Association Champion in second place and Andrew Hartman on the Silver Series Champion International Addiction IH in fourth, campaigned by his late father Quinton in 2021. The Saturday afternoon session had two single-session shootouts, Super Stock Diesel Trucks and Light Pro Stock Tractors. PPL competitors swept the top five in the Super Stock Diesel Truck action where Van Haisley took his third overall title in the class in the Rock Hard Ram, followed by Kent Crowder in the Scheid Diesel Ram, Brion Withrow in the Nut Job Chevrolet, Chase Eller in the Caretaker Dodge, and Brady Ingram in the second Scheid Diesel Dodge entry. Light Pro Stock Tractor action was led by the Shagnasty IH entry of Rich Johnson with the overall win and fellow Champion Seed Western Series competitor Ryan Mitchell on the Hostile Environment JD in second. Other PPL standouts in that class were Jeff Mikloiche on the Demented CaseIH in fourth and Adam Diaz and the Whiskey Business in fifth.

The final session crowned the six final champions of the event and PPL stars shone across all classes. In Modified Tractor action Ricky Long and the MAVTV entry (winner of the qualifier session) finished fourth in the finals while Wayne Sullivan and his Optima Batteries Kentuckian finished fifth. Super Farm featured PPL points champion Josh Miley and the High Maintenan$e CaseIH in second followed by past points champ Shaun Boyd on the Screamin’ Norwegian CaseIH in third and the Crop Doctor IH of John Silsby in fourth. Lightweight Super Stock featured Champions Tour stars Terry Blackbourn on the Armed and Dangerous-Excessive Force CaseIH in the top spot, Josh Blackbourn and the CaseIH Considered Armed and Dangerous in third, Robert Jones and the Field Sobriety CaseIH in fourth, Tayton Terry piloting the Hystrung Allis in fifth and Todd Maedge on the Monkey Mayhem-Uncaged CaseIH in sixth.

Super Modified Two Wheel Drive Truck offered Donnie Sullivan in the Sawmill Express Chevy in third and Russ Nichols driving the On the Edge Ford into the fifth spot. After his win in the qualifying round of the Super Stock Diesel/Alcohol class Colin Ross and the Triple Bypass McCormick finished second in the all-diesel finals. Completing the evening was the ever-popular Pro Stock Tractor class with RJ Simon taking the win on the Loud and Loaded JD with the trailer mate and 2021 PPL points champion machine Loud and Heavy JD of Brandon Simon in third place.

Normally pullers shift their focus to the outdoor pulling season after “Farm Show Week;” for 2022, several members of the Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League will return to Freedom Hall on March 26th for the Inaugural MAC Trailer Winter Nationals. Pullers in Pro Stock, Unlimited Super Stock, Hot Rod Semi, and Mini Rod will hit the Freedom Hall clay track again for a single session of action.
