Dual Day Action at the Midwest Summer Nationals
July 14, 2010
As the Midwest begins to feel the dog days of summer with scorching heat, the Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League continues to gain ground on the 2010 Champions Tour. The next stop on the action packed summer will see the Pro Pulling League trailers roll into the northern tip of Illinois for dual day action at the Midwest Summer Nationals. The Midwest Summer Nationals have proven to be a turning point for many competitors in previous seasons in their pursuit of a championship. Fresh off an adrenaline pumping weekend in the picturesque river town of Henry, Illinois, the Unlimited Super Stock Tractors, Premier Crop Insurance Pro Stock Tractors, and E-3 Sparkplug Super Modified Tractors will set their focus on one of the competitors’ favorite tracks on the circuit, Freeport, Illinois.
The Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League Unlimited Super Stock class saw John Evans grab a win and some momentum to propel his Roberts Pulling Team Case International MX “Big Toy II” to a Champions Tour crown. Evans enters the week fresh off a win at America’s Pull in Henry, Illinois on Saturday night. The chief mechanic and multi-tractor driver is certain to have the Toys tuned up and ready for some ground pounding performances on Thursday and Friday. Evans won’t have to look far to see his competition as two of the biggest threats will be his teammates Tim Howell “Ryan’s Toy” and son Jason Evans “Big Toy”. Jeff Hirt of Port Clinton, Ohio debuted a new Ferris Mowers “Runin Bare All American” for 2010 and couldn’t be more pleased with the results as he currently sits in 2nd in the points after a win in Concord and 2nd place finish last weekend. The Pro Pulling Leagues “Wild Man” will be full throttle in front the fans of Freeport.
The Premier Crop Insurance Pro Stock Tractor class at the Midwest Summer Nationals always leaves the fans impressed as the smoke fills the air of Freeport. With Freeport’s incredibly close proximity to Wisconsin, many of the Lucas Oil Pro Pulling League Badger State Pullers make their way down south to throw their name in the hat for a win. Last years Premier Crop Insurance Pro Stock class winner came from one of the cheeseheads Randy Bader with his John Deere. After the season opening event this past weekend in Henry, it is evident the Boyd’s are more than prepared for another run at a championship as the “Lucas Oil Green Streak” of Steve Boyd and the “Lucas Oil Green Streak II” of Greg Boyd each captured an award winning jacket. The Boyd’s currently hold the 1st and 2nd positions in the points with the red fan favorite “Billet Binder” of Stuart Maize in 3rd. Maize did a great job of representing the International brand in the opening event of the season by finishing in the top ten both nights at America’s Pull. With the Badger State Pullers coming down and the phenomenal class of Champions Tour competitors, it is certain the fans of smoke will be on the edge of their seat in Stephenson County.
The E-3 Sparkplug Super Modified Tractors continue to ignite crowds wherever they go with some of the closest competition in Pro Pulling League history. In just four events, three tractors have claimed top honors with Ken Veney of Wadworth, Ohio being a double winner thus far this season. Veney continues to flex his muscles with the “Funny Farmall” after a win at the General Tire Carolina Super Pull and America’s Pull in Henry. Veney currently holds a ten point lead over the “Rockstar Energy Drink Dirtslinger” and veteran Bill Leischner. Fresh off a win in Henry, Leischner will look to take his newly wrapped Rockstar tractor and status to the top of the Champions Tour. In third place just twelve points off the lead is the newly configured “Takes a Lickin” of the Bunnage Brothers. The brothers from Southern Illinois will look to keep the wins in the “Land of Lincoln” before heading to their home pull on Saturday in Fairfield. It is perfectly clear thus far this summer that if one wants to be the E-3 Sparkplug Modified Champion they better bring the heat!
